The Joy of Sweet Friendships

I have been truly blessed by the friendships that I have been a part of over the course of my life so far. Incorporated into this post are a few photos of some of the friendships that have meant the most to me through the years. It would be impossible to include everyone that I would like to, but if you are reading this and you have ever considered yourself to be my friend in any way, please know that God has blessed me richly by our friendship.

Friendships are a powerful way that we can experience God's grace in our lives. Through the love, forgiveness and joy that we experience from our friends, we are reminded of the same traits that we experience when we live in relationship with God.

Some friends come and go; others stick around. I have friends who I haven't spoken to in years; others that I still communicate with regularly. Each one has a special place in my heart, good or bad.

Not all friendships are great. I have experienced friendships that have been unhealthy, even abusive. I have known friends who used me to get what they want and then discarded me like a used battery when I no longer served their purpose. I have had friends who were thankful for our friendship when they were struggling but then abandoned me when I was in need.

But I have also had friends who stuck with me through the times when I was unbearable; friends who believed in me when I did not believe in myself; friends who lifted me up and pushed me to become a better version of myself.

I have had best friends who have stuck with me through thick and thin. I have had larger groups of friends that have made life more enjoyable by giving me a fresh outlook. I have friends that I played sport with and friends that I could sit and chat with for hours over a cup of tea or a beer.

Mel and I are moving at the end of the year and one of our biggest fears is not being able to make friends in our new home town. But in the past, when we have felt alone and in need of good friendships, God has been an amazing provider.

Reflecting on the amazing friendships that we have been blessed with in our past, we are hopeful that we will make many more friends that we can cherish in the years to come.

I am so thankful for the unbelievable groups of friends that I have made down the years. Friendship groups like the Rascals Crew, Meowingtons and Run2Eat have enriched my life tremendously. I have been blessed by God's grace revealed to me through the people who have been such good friends through the years. If you are reading this and I have been lucky enough to call you a friend: Thank you!

Sweet friendships refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy, for good friends are like the anointing oil that yields the fragrant incense of God’s presence.

- Proverbs 27:9 (TPT)
